The Early Bird Gets In For Free
The fourth destination on my Thanksgiving Road Trip 2017 was Arches National Park outside of Moab, Utah. I had been to this park before, as well as to Monument Valley and Bryce NP highlighted in the previous posts, more than 20 years ago when I was driving across the country to settle in California. But when I saw Arches NP again this time, I didn’t recognize a single thing. It’s amazing how much my memory changes and omits things over time.
I got a fantastic head start on this day and was at the Park entrance by 7:30am. I had a small window of time to pay a visit to this amazing place before I had to be making tracks toward Denver, Colorado. Today was Thanksgiving Day, and I was scheduled to be at the home of my good friends Chris and Robbin in time for their Thanksgiving dinner, and although dinner time was flexible (whenever I got there is what they said), I wanted to get in at a respectable and traditional time of about 4pm. So when I got to the entrance of the park, there wasn’t a soul at the entrance booth. Lucky lucky, I just drove right in! Happy Thanksgiving to me!
