I found the Calla Lily Valley!
I had seen pictures of this gorgeous valley filled with my favorite flower, the calla lily, on my Pinterest feed, and wanted to find it someday. I was thrilled to find out that this magical place was right in my own backyard… in a tiny little valley right off the beach just a few miles south of Point Lobos. So it was a random Sunday afternoon when I had no plans that I decided to get in my car with my camera and find this place.
The late winter/early spring had been very wet, and I had a feeling that the flowers would be in bloom. I had also been seeing calla lilies in fresh bloom all over the place where I lived. So I was really excited to go find this treasure.
I had a general idea where it was, but it didn’t have an exact address so I had to get as close as I could and find the rest of the way once I got there. I drove to Garrapata Beach and saw cars parked along the road, so I figured it was near there. I got out, and as I was walking toward a beach entrance, there was a nice retired couple walking toward me, coming from the beach. I asked them if they knew where the Calla Lily Valley was, and they said “well, not sure where that is, but there is a valley full of Calla Lilies down there.” I chuckled and said that’s probably it. They gave me very detailed directions to how to find it. I followed their directions, and 10 minutes later, I was gasping at the beauty of an entire valley filled – I mean, filled – with these gorgeous flowers.
