Joshua Tree is my favorite place in all the west.
A few weeks after I returned from France, I drove down to Joshua Tree to serve during a service period at the SoCal Vipassana Center. That is the three days or so in between courses, when volunteers come help get the center ready for the next course, cleaning, replenishing, organizing and doing general maintenance. I left Oakland a few days before I was scheduled to be there, and spent some time in Joshua Tree NP. This is one of my favorite places in the world – quiet, peaceful, and centering. I think this may have been my 13th trip into the park. I can probably stop counting at this point.
On Sunday, I headed over to Boy Scout Trail and walked for about 4 hours, half of it in a sandy wash. My calves didn’t work for the following three days. Yep… a little sore. Note to self… always stretch!
