Keeping Strawberries Fresh

Strawberries are in season right now, so I have been picking up a small box of them on my weekly grocery run. Since I am a one-person household, I just don’t eat them fast enough, and by the end of the week, these beautiful strawberries end up all shriveled and dull and not very appetizing. Some of them straight up go bad. So I looked around for a solution, and I found one! Here is a really nifty trick for keeping your strawberries fresh all week. It’s really simple. Ready?

Rinse the strawberries in a vinegar/water bath.

Put the strawberries in a container with a paper towel.

Rinse them in a 3:1 water/vinegar bath, dry them off, and put them in a container with some paper towels in with it.

BAM. That’s it! Fresh strawberries all week!

Instructions

Fill a bowl with 1/3 C vinegar and 1 C water. Put your strawberries in the bath and let them sit for about a minute. Don’t let them sit too long or the strawberries will start to break down and become a little mushy.

Take out each strawberry one by one and dry them off in a paper towel. I put the paper towel in my hand, put the strawberry in, and give it a little hug, without squeezing to get the water off. I went through about 3 half sheets of paper towel for my one pint of strawberries. I wouldn’t do it with a cloth because you might leave some lint on the fruit. But that’s up to you.

Place them in a container lined with paper towel (I choose glass for it’s eco-friendly qualities), put the lid on, and put in the fridge. You’re done!
